recent FILM rolls

So after a long hiatus of not taking any film photographs I’m back into the addiction of using the big camera, slowly and peacefully, with intention and patience. I do love the process of using the big heavy camera, it does not allow any error, it weighs a tonne, it’s expensive to run. Arguably the quality is technically lower than the digital, but somehow it captures time better, with more soul, more mojo, it creates real things from real things. Philosophically it feels more complete, more natural, more alive.

FUJI 400H -120 - 6x8 - EXPIRED 2016

This roll worked out well, I only made one mistake on frame 1 by over exposing it. There seems to have been a slight lack of sharpness on this roll, perhaps this is a symptom of being 9 years expired? I metered and shot at iso 400 so absolutely no light fall off due to expiration. So 9 out of 10 shots successful and 5 portfolio shots.

KODAK GOLD 200 - 120 - 6x8 - FRESH

Kodak Gold was re-released in 120 format in 2022, so I was well over due giving it a go, I’ve had really great results from Portra and Ektar in the past. Kodak colour film is peerless, I’m sad that Fuji don’t make film anymore but Kodak is probably preferable for colour negative, sharper, less green. I’ve got loads of expired Velvia 50 slide film that I need to get through but there really is no margin for error with that stuff, so need to build up to it. This film worked out great 9 out of 9 shots successful, bar a few small focus errors. Maybe 4 or 5 portfolio shots.

***** AC Three Wheelers, Toyota MR2 & Back Boiler - Brechin Industrial Estate

Took me a while to identify these cars you can read about them here

I absolutely love the colour from this film, particularly in this last shot, not surprisingly it’s warm given it’s gold moniker, but still very true to life but somehow better.
